Boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, has been associated with Gervonta Davis for a long time. Mayweather has been promoting ‘Tank’ since his professional debut and has played a vital role in his success.
Therefore, it was not surprising when ‘Money’ boasted about what his former protege Gervonta Davis made during his time with Mayweather Promotions.
Mayweather boasts about Tank’s salary
In an interview with FightHypeTv, Mayweather stated that although he did not know how much other fighters were making, he did have an idea of what Davis earned.
“Mayweather told the reporter, “I can’t say how much money these fighters are making. That’s none of my business, but I do know one thing, Gervonta Tank Davis is getting paid like a Motherf***er. That’s what I do know.”
Moreover, he also added that during Tank’s time under Mayweather Promotions, he was getting paid a lot more than other fighters. “Now I can’t speak on other fighters. That’s not my business. But one thing about Gervonta Davis. When he was with Floyd Mayweather, he getting paid,” he concluded.
It looks like Mayweather believes that Tank made the wrong choice by leaving Mayweather promotions. However, it might also be that ‘Money’ was taking shots at Davis for leaving his promotion.
Gervonta Davis remained under Mayweather Promotions throughout his entire professional career after he signed with them back in 2015. Furthermore, Davis was their star boxer. However, in the past few years, the relationship between them had deteriorated and reached its climax before Tank’s fight with Rolando Romero earlier this year. The fight was Davis’ final contract with the promotion, after which he announced that he would be leaving the promotion.
Davis became frustrated by the lack of good opponents under the promotion and felt that his talents were not being fully explored by Mayweather. The 27-year-old has been very vocal about his dissatisfaction with the promotion. Moreover, he also took shots against Mayweather on social media and in interviews marking the end of their relationship.
