‘I don’t think he could beat Novak Djokovic in the final’, says expert

Former Australian Open boss Paul McNamee said he thought Novak Djokovic’s ball striking was what ultimately decided the winner of the Wimbledon final. The 35-year-old Djokovic faced an inspired Nick Kyrgios in the Wimbledon final as the Aussie was playing very well and was definitely up for Djokovic’s challenge.

Kyrgios started the match well, winning the first set 6-4. Kyrgios didn’t play poorly for the rest of the match, but Djokovic was just a little better and managed to clinch a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) win. “My last word tonight on the Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic’s striking of the ball in the last 3 sets was out of this world – even a player with the talent of Nick Kyrgios couldn’t cope with it – hence why I call it ‘a little god,'” McNamee tweeted.

Djokovic was playing his 32nd Grand Slam final, a record, while Kyrgios was contesting his first Grand Slam final. Experience was on Djokovic’s side and it certainly helped the Serb to play better in the key moments of the match.
“I know it’s hard to find words of comfort after a tough loss like this, but you’ve shown why you deserve to be one of the best players in the world, especially on this surface,” Djokovic told Kyrgios. “Congratulations to you and your team, and I wish you the best.

I respect you a lot. I think you are a phenomenal tennis player and athlete, an incredible talent.” Djokovic now has 21 Grand Slam titles in his collection and is behind Rafael Nadal for a Grand Slam. Unfortunately, we probably won’t see Djokovic at the US Open.

Djokovic has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and it is likely that he will not be allowed to enter the United States without being vaccinated. When asked if he would get vaccinated just to compete at the US Open, Djokovic said no.

Pilic reflects on Djokovic
In a recent interview with SportKlub, former player and coach Nikola Pilic of Croatia weighed in on Novak Djokovic’s successful run in London, terming him better than Nadal and Federer. “A very important tournament for Novak, more important than any before.

He had a lot of problems this season. He found out that he can’t play at the US Open now that he doesn’t have the coronavirus, and last year when it was relevant, he could play. Nadal didn’t play well the whole tournament.
He struggled with form, I don’t think he could beat Djokovic in the final. I’m pretty sure of that,” Pilic said.
