The Mercedes is on a roll and there is no stopping them, apparently. Ahead of the weekend, they created a big hype with new parts for the W13 and until race day, they were struggling. However, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell delivered a stellar result by grabbing the first double podium finish for the team in 2022.
The Brit duo drove an exceptional race to bring home the strong points. Hamilton got an amazing start off the line which saw him jump Sergio Perez even before racing the first corner. Russell, with his quick reactions during the late virtual safety car, also left the Mexican behind to clinch the last podium position.
After the race, the seven-time world champion appeared on the F1 Post-race show and treated himself to an Ice-Lolly. The scorching heat of Le Castellet made it a super demanding race for each driver and to cool himself down, the Mercedes ace opted for the $1 luxury.

Will Buxton asked him “I know you have the drinks bottle, do you want an Ice-Lolly?” Hamilton shied away at first by saying “Ah no I am good”
This is when Mercedes reserve driver, Nyck de Vries chipped in and said “It is a treat” Buxton joined in, tempting the champion with orange-flavored alternatives of the treat.
Following that, the Briton failed to resist and said “Are these like the ones from school” and he reached out in the freezing case to grab a couple for him and his press officer, Charlie Rose. The F1 journalist exclaimed “Yes exactly, they are exactly like the ones from school. Take as many as you want, you are the last guest”
The 37-year-old has his fellow Brit to thank for this, as in the previous race Lando Norris suggested this to Buxton during the post-race show. As a result, this time around the F1 journalist handed out a refreshing treat to all the drivers who attended the interviews following the race.
Notably, Hamilton picked another ice lolly which he later presented to his teammate, Russell during the press conference. It looks like after calling it a day at the office, an F1 driver prefers an Ice-Lolly over champagne. Considering he didn’t have access to his drink throughout the race, the lolly seemed like the fair choice.
Lewis Hamilton finds his feet back in the championship
Under these new rules and regulations, Mercedes finds itself behind the pace set by the Ferrari and the Red Bull. At each race weekend, the Germans are trying to get on top of their new era car and it seems there might be light at the end of the tunnel for them.
Left it all out there today and P2 is a great result! First time up there with @GeorgeRussell63 as well. It’s so rewarding to see how far we’ve come since the beginning of the season. Still have work to do, but definitely going to enjoy this one !!!
P2 at the French GP means a fourth consecutive podium for Hamilton. He found himself in uncharted territory at the start of the season, battling in the mid-field. Nonetheless, he backed himself and never lost hope in the 8-time constructor winners who have significantly improved their situation since the Bahrain GP.
To make things worse, Russell is in exceptional form this season. He has finished every race in the top 5 except the British GP. This put the spotlight on the veteran who could not score the big points like his teammate. For 15 years, the Brit has let his driving do the talking and is delivering another masterclass.
With 10 races to go, he is P6 in the championship with a deficit of 16 points to his partner. Which Mercedes driver do you think will finish ahead in the 2022 season?
