Favorable Draw: Tracy Austin comments on Venus Williams’ comeback at Citi Open

Former world No. 1 Tracy Austin is looking forward to seeing Venus Williams back in action as she thinks the seven-time Grand Slam champion was handed a favorable draw in Washington. Williams, who hasn’t played in a singles tournament since last year’s August, is set to make her long-awaited comeback at the Citi Open in Washington.

Williams, who accepted a wildcard into Washington, was drawn to face a qualifier in her Washington opener. “42 and what I was curious about was to see her draw. As an unseeded player, she’s going to be dangerous.

Who did she get, she got a qualifier. So I think that’s a nice draw for her to be able to work her way in,” Austin said on Tennis Channel, per Sportskeeda.

Williams set to debut in Washington
Williams is set to compete on the hard courts of Washington for the very first time at the age of 42.

Even though Williams has never before played at the Citi Open, she has heard only positive things about the tournament and she is looking forward to competing there. “I am excited to be playing the Citi Open for the first time this summer,” Williams said.

“I love Washington, DC, and returning to the nation’s capital to play in front of a community that has supported me so strongly feels like a homecoming. I am looking forward to being back on the courts and competing in DC soon”.

Williams competed at this past Wimbledon, though only in the mixed doubles event. Initially, Williams didn’t plan to compete at Wimbledon but it all changed when she arrived to The Championships. After arriving to Wimbledon, Williams asked Jamie Murray if he was interested in playing mixed doubles.

Murray agreed and the Wimbledon organizers handed them a wildcard. In their team debut, Williams and Murray reached the last-16. Now, Williams is set for her singles comeback.
