During a press tour with Tyler Perry for his new Apple TV+ film, ‘Emancipation’. Smith revealed that the champ called him on the very next day after the incident. After that, he continued to call Will Smith for the next ten days in order to give him words of encouragement. But in his words, you can easily identify Floyd Mayweather and Will Smith have similar personalities. In a search for validation after such a low moment, Floyd’s words offered fresh approval in spite of what he did.

This is what he said: “We’ve met each other, we’ve seen each other around. But we weren’t friends. The day after the Oscars, for ten days he called me every day. He was like: ‘Hey! You know you are the champ right? Are you good? You know you are the champ right? I want you to hear my voice say it.’ Every day he called me and it’s like, that’s my dude forever right there.”

The folks from The Breakfast Club were the ones that reported this revelation about Will Smith. Charlamagne Da God joked about it by saying Floyd Mayweather called Will Smith to give him a pointer on his slapping technique. It’s interesting to note that Smith confirmed he wasn’t friends with Floyd before the slap, meaning that Mayweather just wanted to send his words of support regardless of their friendship status.
